Photograph of a Shaker woman done on relatively heavy cardboard. Written on back in pencil is "Collins-Eldress Sarah Collins-South Family, N. Lebanon, N.Y." However, this source is incorrect. Our collection has photographs of Sarah Collins from a young girl through old age and there is little physical resemblance. This unidentified Shaker woman is dressed in the traditional Shaker garb of high button neck dress and her hair is pulled tightly back under the traditional Shaker net cap. She has on oval wire rim glasses and her face shows just a trace of a smile. The portrait is partially shaded in some areas and there are some lighter, nearly white colored spots. A piece of white index card residing in the envelope explains the error in identification. Back of photograph has many water stains.
