Description |
Small photograph of two Shaker sisters - identified on the back as Sr. Catherine Allen (1852-1922, Central Ministry Eldress) & Sr. Martha Burger (1853-1926), ca. late 1910s). Sister Martha Burger is standing by a large desk, while Sr. Catherine Allen is seated on the other side of the desk in a Shaker rocker. Both sisters are dressed in the traditional Shaker garb - long sleeve dress gathered at the waist and falling into pleats in the skirt. Both have a silk shoulder scarf draped around their shoulders and are wearing wire rim glasses. In the left hand side of the picture is a four legged table with a white table scarf and a large arrangement of potted ferns and plants. The photograph is mounted on a tannish-gray cardboard. The back features a list of all the photographs taken in this set of the North Family at Mt. Lebanon by J.E. West. #34 is marked as this photograph. Three other photographs: # 1974.84.10 & PM-37, & PM-38 are also in the HSV collection. |
