Description |
Cruet with handle holding four jars, all four jars are part of the object. 2008.12.1a - Cruet, metal with handle. Can rotate around its axis. Handle has a bent shape to it on the horizontal axis. Design of flower heads and various leaves on side of the cruet. Handle can be screwed off. Flower design on handle. On the bottom of the base in the center is a crafter's mark, reads "Quadrupleplate" and "Meriden, Conn" around the inner mark. The mark itself consists of two blacksmith hammers in the middle and written, " Wilcox Sliver Plate Co"Handle H= 22.1cm. Could use polishing to bring out shine if it was not an artifact. 2008.12.1b - Glass jar with metal lip. Lip of jar is designed for pouring with a long oval-like lip. Design on side, circle in middle with mirroring on both sides of circle, two lines, one diagonally up the other diagonally down with a dot above the top line and one dot below the other line. Design continues, four small hash marks then one line which curves up at its end with one dot above the line and another dot below the line. Has long base to fit securely inside the cruet. Spiral twist on the lower part of the jar. H= 18.9cm 2008.12.1c-cc - Glass jar with glass stopper on top. Shapes make up the design pattern of the jar, ovals, circles, and a hexagon shape. The hexagon shape pattern is repeated in the stopper. H without stopper= 12.9cm. Stopper H= 7.8cm Given the shape of the base on this jar it might not originally have been part of the cruet, it does not have a long base that can sit securely into the jar base. This jar rather sits on top of the jar base. 2008.12.1d-dd - Glass jar with glass stopper on top containing black pepper still. Diamond pattern on stopper. The neck of the jar has an alternating water drop shape around it. In the middle of the jar is a simple line pattern circling the jar with a row of oval shapes just underneath it. Near the bottom of the jar are smaller ovals that encircle the jar. H without stopper= 16.2cm. Stopper H= 7.8cm. 2008.12.1e - Glass jar with residue of black pepper on the inside. No top to the jar but the lip of the jar indicated that a top could be screwed on to it. The design on the side of the jar is a repeating upside down U-shape with a smaller U-shape within the larger one. Two diagonal lines protrude upward from the smaller U-shape to the larger U-shape. H= 15.8cm |
